Why Tally exists

Most side hustles run on a hunch. Yours doesn't have to.

You didn't start this to open a spreadsheet on a Sunday night. You started it because it sounded fun, or because rent went up, or a bit of both. Tally is the quiet check in that tells you whether it's working — and when you make money, how much to keep back for tax.

You've got a rough feeling, not a real number

Some months feel good, some feel quiet, and the truth sits somewhere in between. A feeling isn't the same as knowing.

The costs live in five different places

A domain here, an ad boost there, that subscription you keep meaning to cancel. Add it all up and the picture usually shifts.

You want one honest answer

Am I actually up this month, or am I paying to have a hobby? Tally settles it in about ten seconds a day.

The uncomfortable bit

Keeping a tally isn't optional. Guessing is.

Most people running something on the side keep no proper record of what came in or went out. Then tax season rolls around and it's one of two moves: don't declare it and hope, or panic and pick a number. Both are bad ideas. Neither is necessary.

The ostrich

Don't declare it and hope nobody notices. Fine until it isn't. Tax offices don't forget, and the penalties compound faster than the hustle does.

The panic guess

Scroll a year of bank texts the night before the deadline, round up, hope for the best. Usually overpay. Sometimes underpay. Always stressful.

The tally

Ten seconds when money moves. A real number when you need it. No spreadsheet, no shoebox of receipts, no dread in January.

Spreadsheets, QuickBooks, or Tally.

Spreadsheets feel like faff. QuickBooks feels like overkill. Tally sits in the middle, built for the money you make on the side.

Spreadsheets

Faff

  • Build the whole table before you can log a single dollar
  • One stray click and the formulas quietly fall apart
  • No clue which link or product is actually paying you
  • Ends up in a tab you avoid until tax season

QuickBooks or Xero

Overkill

  • Chart of accounts, invoicing, payroll. Built for a real business you don't have
  • Costs more per month than most side hustles clear in a week
  • An onboarding flow long enough to lose a whole Saturday
  • You need an accountant to help you make sense of it

Tally

Just right

Ten seconds a day

  • One space per hustle. A program, a link, a small product, whatever fits
  • Type a number, tap spend or earn, and you're done
  • Net profit sits right at the top. Green means keep going
  • Small enough to open on your phone between two meetings

How it works

Three small steps. That's the whole thing.

01

Add a space for each thing you do

One space per program, link or little product. Give it a name, an emoji, and a currency. That's the whole setup.

02

Jot down what you spend and what comes in

Type a number, tap spend or earn, add a note if you want. Ten seconds on the couch is enough to keep it current.

03

See the one number that tells the truth

Net profit sits right at the top of every space. Green means keep going. Red means it's time for an honest look.

Fair questions.

Anything else, drop us a note from inside the app.

Do I need a card to start?

Yes — your first month of Tally Pro is free. Enter a card, cancel any time in the first 30 days and you won't be charged. If a platform you already use is a Tally partner, they can invite you and your automated space stays free for life.

What counts as a 'space'?

A space is one thing you're tracking. Could be a whole program, a single funnel, or a product. Whatever level makes net profit a useful number for you.

Do you support multiple currencies?

Yes. Each space has its own currency, so you can run a USD program right next to a EUR one without the totals getting muddled.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel Pro from Settings in one click. During the free week you pay nothing. After that you keep access until the end of your billing period.

Do you have a partner program for platforms?

Yes. If you run a platform whose members earn money and need to stay tax-compliant, our partner API provisions branded Tally spaces for them with one call, and pays you 35% for life on any member who upgrades to Pro. See the /partners page.

Where's my data stored?

In our managed cloud database. Your entries belong to you, and you can export or delete them any time from Settings.
